What are the Types of Diagnosis Codes?

Diagnoses codes are categorized into four types. Users can view them in the dropdown under the ‘Type’ column.

Diagnoses Types

Diagnoses Types:

  • Primary: The main diagnosis for a visit.
  • Secondary: Any diagnosis codes that are not the main diagnosis for a visit.
  • Established: Represents any chronic diseases the patient might be suffering from and is typically noted during the visit.
  • Working: A provisional diagnosis that the provider is in the process of confirming through diagnostic techniques such as laboratory tests.

NOTE:
Providers who work at multi-specialty practices can use these types to identify and separate the diagnosis codes that are valid for any patient. This feature is optional and does not affect the billing for the encounter.
